Penchant Premium lube

I was completely shocked by how much I like Penchant Premium lube. In fact, dizzyguy and I both love it. Now I know I blather on and on about our favorite go-to silicone-based lube and how nothing else has quite measured up to it. It was a total surprise to both of us that this one does. I didn’t expect much because honestly, it’s a brand I’d never heard of and it’s only sold on Amazon. It’s not carried by any of my favorite sex shops but I think it should be. It’s that good. My only complaint about this lube – give me bigger bottles with a pump!

I’m not even sure what more I can say. It’s perfect. It has a nice viscosity and texture and stays slippery as long as we need it to, not pooping out on us like so many other silicone-based lubes we’ve tried. It even seems to be easier to clean off of the skin than our ol’ reliable brand.

It also costs about the same as that lube we’ve loved for years so, the pricing isn’t way out of line. About the only reason I wouldn’t buy a bottle of this instead of our go-to is because it only comes in 4oz squeeze bottles. We like buying very large bottles of the lubes we love and bottles with pumps are the best. So, I’d like to see Penchant come out with some. They’ve told me that they’re planning on offering larger bottles in the future. I think that’s definitely a good idea.

I have heard that the fewer ingredients a silicone-based lube has the better. Supposedly, this makes it more likely to be compatible with silicone sex toys. Penchant has only 4 ingredients1 and they just happen to be exactly the same as those in our go-to lube. No wonder I like it so much. You should always spot test silicone-based lube on your silicone sex toys because sometimes they can be incompatible and it’ll ruin your toy. I tested Penchant on my Tantus Vamp and there wasn’t the reaction where the surface of the toy gets tacky but it was nearly impossible to clean off all of the residue.

I’m not even going to be making a commission for recommending this lube2 and the only compensation I’ve received for this review was the lube itself. So really, trust me (as if you didn’t already) this is phenomenal lube. It’s gotten great reviews on Amazon and there is a 30 day money back guarantee if you don’t love it. I really hope this company has great success and it would be awesome if I could find Penchant Premium at some of my favorite retailers.

Sliquid Silver

If you’ve read my blog long enough, you probably know that dizzyguy and I are obsessed with a certain brand of silicone-based lube. We’ve tried others and none of them have measured up to our favorite – Wet Platinum. But now, I’ve found one that comes really damn close. Like a gnat’s whisker close to being as good as our favorite. In fact, if the unthinkable were to happen and they quit making Wet Platinum, we’d probably switch to this brand.

Sliquid Silver is a great silicone-based lube. But then everything Sliquid makes is pretty damn good. I have been in love with their hybrid lube, Silk but never tried the Silver. It feels a lot like our favorite lube in consistency and slickness. In use, it’s very similar to our favorite, keeping everything gliding along nicely. It’s only when we’ve been at it for a while that I feel like it starts to poop out on us. Our favorite silicone-based lube never lets us down like that. But for this to really be a problem, we’re talking about longer sessions that would probably challenge most lubricants.

It does seem to clean up easier than the Wet Platinum. This is just my half-assed theory but I think the harder a silicone-based lube is to wash off, the longer it stays slick during sex. At least, that’s how it seems to be with the various lubes I’ve tried. I know some folks despise how difficult it can be to wash off silicone-based lube so the fact that Sliquid Silver cleans up easier will probably appeal to them.

About the only thing I don’t like about Sliquid Silver (and Sliquid lubes in general) is the packaging and amount of product available. We buy our Wet Platinum in 32oz bottles with a large pump for easy application. Sliquid’s smaller squeeze bottles tend to get everything messy a lot easier. I do wish they’d make larger bottles with a pump. Maybe like, you only have to buy the pump once and it can go on all future bottles, something like that.

Here’s the thing that surprised the shit out of me. I just naturally expected Sliquid Silver to be more expensive than our Wet Platinum but it’s not. On the site where I normally buy our Wet Platinum, a 4.2oz bottle is $19.99, while at PeepShow Toys a 4.2oz bottle of Sliquid Silver is $15. So, there ya go… it’s very close to being as good as our favorite and it costs less. When does that ever happen?

I don’t use silicone-based lube with my sex toys very often but I’m sure the Silver would perform well. I have heard that the fewer ingredients that a silicone-based lube has, the better and Silver only has three. It’s one of those silicone-based lubes that has a good chance of being compatible with silicone sex toys. I know right now you’re probably questioning my sanity. Silicone-based lube with silicone sex toys? That’s a no-no, right? Well, sometimes it’s not.

The thing is, both the lube and the toy need to be made of high quality materials. What happens when silicone-based lube and a silicone sex toy are incompatible is that the surface of your toy will get permanently tacky. So, if you want to be completely safe, use water-based lube. But I and many other bloggers have successfully used silicone-based lube with our silicone sex toys. That said, I suggest that no matter what anyone says, if you’re going to try it, always do a spot test on the base of the toy and look for the reaction where the surface becomes tacky. If it does, obviously, don’t use that lube with that toy.

I’m not sure what else I can say – it’s lube. It reduces friction. It does what it’s made to do. But it does happen to do a much better job of it than other silicone-based lubes I’ve tested and it is the only one, so far, that’s come close to being as good as our beloved brand so, that’s saying something. We won’t be switching any time soon but Sliquid Silver is a great lube and a solid choice. I have no reservations at all in recommending it.

Pjur Original Bodyglide

I keep trying different brands of silicone-based lube, not because I need to find a good one but more for reviewing purposes. This is because I have already found the perfect silicone-based lube for us and so far, no other silicone-based lube has been able to trump the brand that dizzyguy and I have relied on for years. But I keep trying because, ya never know, right?

Well, Pjur Original Bodyglide silicone-based lube is not the one that’s going to make us switch brands. Our tried and true Wet Platinum is still the best I’ve ever tried. Maybe it’s that I’m so hooked on the stuff because we’ve used it for ages but nothing else I’ve used has measured up.

Pjur Original Bodyglide silicone-based lube is OK. That’s it, just OK. My main complaint with it is that it didn’t last as long as our go-to lube. It began to dry up and the friction got uncomfortable before dizzyguy and I were done having sex. Our favorite silicone-based lube never lets us down like that.

Wet Platinum is runnier than Pjur Original Bodyglide and I mean that in a good way. Pjur feels really thick and hard to spread around, whereas Wet Platinum just easily coats everything it needs to. I suspect it’s this difference in viscosity that makes Wet Platinum last longer.

But that’s not to say that Pjur Original Bodyglide is a horrible lube. It’s just not the best for us. As compared to the various silicone-based lubes I’ve tried, it’s pretty average, performing much like those other brands. It did seem easier to clean off of our bodies than the Wet Platinum. It can take quite a bit of soaping up to remove all of that lube but I think this is part of why it lasts longer than the Pjur. I’ll take the tiny bit of hassle with a lube that’s harder to clean off but goes the distance. Then again, if you hate how hard it is to clean off silicone-based lubes, then you might like Pjur for that reason.

Most silicone-based lubes are comprised of the same few ingredients so, it’s a mystery to me how companies can make their brands feel so different from one another. Maybe it’s the ratios of the various ingredients that makes the difference. All I know is that even though Pjur has three out of the four same ingredients as our favorite lube, it doesn’t feel anything like it. So, obviously this isn’t a lube that I’m going to go out of my was to purchase. It works alright with my toys so I’ll use the remainder of the bottle for that purpose but it’s just not up to our standards for a lube that we use together.

Pink and Gun Oil lube

Before I started reviewing, we were pretty well hooked on one brand of silicone-based lube. We never felt the need to explore other options because we were totally satisfied with our favorite. But with silicone sex toys, came the need for water-based lube and with reviewing came opportunities to try new brands of all kinds of lube. So far, I’ve tried some pretty good ones but none have replaced our go-to silicone-based lube. I was contacted by Empowered Products, the manufacturer of Pink and Gun Oil, and they offered to let me try their water-based and silicone-based varieties of both brands. Would any of them be good enough to make us switch?

When it comes to lube, I’m kind of picky. I won’t use anything that contains glycerin or parabens. Luckily, Pink Water, Gun Oil H2O, Pink Silicone and Gun Oil Silicone lubes contain neither. There are products under each brand that do contain parabens and I was unwilling to review those. For more information on why you might want to avoid these ingredients, see this page.

First of all, I feel that I need to point out that the formulation of Pink Water and Gun Oil H2O lubes appears to be the same, according to the listed ingredients. The same is true for the silicone-based variety of both brands. So, which to choose may simply come down to packaging and price – and as you’ll see, it does.

Ingredients1

Pink Water Gun Oil H2O
Purified Water, Propleyne Glycol (Humectant/Moisture), Hydroxyethlcellulose (Emulsifier/Enhance Moisture), Aloe Barbadensis Leaf (Aloe Vera), Potassium Sorbate (Anti-Microbial), Tetrasodium EDTA (Stabilizer), Panax Ginseng Root (Ginseng- Heighten Sensation), Paulina Cupana (Guarana – Increase Blood Flow), Avena Sativa (Oat Extract- Antioxidant)*, Polysorbate 20 (Emulsifier), PEG-45 (Humectant/Moisture), Polyquarternium-5 (Emulsifier), Citric Acid (Antioxidant/Sweetner) Purified Water, Propleyne Glycol (Humectant/Moisture), Hydroxyethlcellulose (Emulsifier/Enhance Moisture), Aloe Barbadensis Leaf (Aloe Vera), Potassium Sorbate (Anti-Microbial), Tetrasodium EDTA (Stabilizer), Panax Ginseng Root (Ginseng- Heighten Sensation), Paulina Cupana (Guarana – Increase Blood Flow), Avena Sativa (Oat Extract- Antioxidant)*, Polysorbate 20 (Emulsifier), PEG-45 (Humectant/Moisture), Polyquarternium-5 (Emulsifier), Citric Acid (Antioxidant/Sweetener)

*Those with Celiac disease or oat allergies may want to avoid Pink Water and Gun Oil H2O.

Pink Silicone Gun Oil Silicone
Cyclopentasiloxane (Silicone/Lubrication), Dimenthicone (Silicone/Lubrication), Dimethiconol (Silicone/Lubrication), Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E/Healing), Aloe Barbadensis Leaf (Aloe Vera//Reduce Irritation/Healing) Cyclopentasiloxane (Silicone/Lubrication), Dimenthicone (Silicone/Lubrication), Dimethiconol (Silicone/Lubrication), Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E/Healing), Aloe Barbadensis Leaf (Aloe Vera//Reduce Irritation/Healing)

I really like the water-based and silicone-based formulas of both brands. We tend to use silicone-based lube for vaginal intercourse and I usually save the water-based lube for my sex toys. Dizzyguy even commented on how nice the Pink Silicone/Gun Oil Silicone lube felt and he’s a die hard fan of our go-to silicone-based lube. He said that he would consider using them again and it’s not easy to get him to switch to anything new once he’s found something he likes. I haven’t tried another silicone-based lube yet that I would substitute for my favorite but I think Pink Silicone and Gun Oil Silicone come close.

I am also equally pleased with the Pink Water and Gun Oil H2O lubes. And why not? It is the same lube in different bottles. It works really well with my toys. It doesn’t get sticky and it lasts about as long as you can expect water-based lube to last. Like most water-based lube it doesn’t stain fabrics and it’s easy to clean up.

I was given the 3.3oz bottles of the Pink lube and 2oz bottles of the Gun Oil lube for this review and the pump is annoying on all of them. The tiniest bit of lube comes out with each squirt and we don’t skimp on the lube.  I do know that the 8oz bottle of Gun Oil H2O dispenses better but it’s not a pump.  I’d like to see it sold in industrial sized bottles with serious pumps on them, like the ginormous bottles of our go-to lube that we buy.  The smallest bottles do have their place though since they are TSA compliant.  I’d probably buy the Gun Oil brand lubricants instead of the Pink brand because they come in much larger sizes but there’s another reason I’d choose the Gun Oil brand, which I’ll explain.

Cost comparison2

Pink Water
1.7oz $9.49 ($5.58/oz)
3.3oz $12.79 ($3.88/oz)
6.7oz $19.50 ($2.91/oz)

2oz $8.79 ($4.39/oz)
4oz $12.79 ($3.19/oz)
8oz $19.59 ($2.44/oz)
16oz $36.29
32oz $59.99

32 oz $86.29

Pink Silicone lubeGun Oil Silicone lube

Again, Gun Oil Silicone has more size choices and appears to have better prices. Also, the 4oz Pink Silicone is so much more expensive because of the glass bottle. That’s just silly. I’d never spend that much just to get the glass bottle.

Despite the fact that I really like these lubricants, there is one thing I do take issue with. I don’t understand why you don’t get the larger bottles with the Pink brand and the prices are higher overall for the exact same formulations of lube; unless they can give me some explanation as to how the Pink lube is somehow different despite the listed ingredients.  So in other words, lube in masculine bottles costs less than the same lube in feminine bottles.

I do genuinely like their lubricants but I have a hard time recommending them because of the pricing discrepancy. So, my advice… don’t get duped by the marketing. Buy the lube in the manly bottles, it’s a better bargain. But beyond that, why even have a “male” and “female” brand of the same lube? Isn’t it enough that they’re producing a quality product?

I’m sure this marketing strategy works on some level or they wouldn’t be doing it but really, why can’t this lube be sold under one gender neutral brand with the same quantity and price for everyone?  OK… I get it, maybe some men feel more comfortable buying lube in masculine bottles and some women might prefer feminine bottles but can’t they at least be made in the same sizes for the same prices?

Update: Since I reviewed these lubes, I’ve had the opportunity to learn a lot more about water-based lube and which ones are most compatible with the body.  I can’t recommend the Gun Oil H2O because it has been found to be hyper-osmotic.  The Pink Water is likely hyper-osmotic as well since it appears to have the same formulation as the Gun Oil H2O.  The ingredient, propylene glycol is best avoided.  Form more on what this means, read this post.

Back in the early days of our relationship, dizzyguy and I used drugstore lubricant. The KY water based lube we always used never lasted long enough but we spunk-lube-pure-silicone-8oz-236mlcontinued to use it because we didn’t know any better. Then several years later, dizzyguy heard a porn star on the radio mention her favorite brand of silicone lube. We had never used silicone based lube and I don’t think either one of us even knew it existed. So, we ordered up a bottle and from the first time we used it, I was hooked. And ever since then, that particular brand of silicone lube is all we used. Sure, it has its drawbacks but silicone lube has the staying power we need and it made sex so much more comfortable for me. We’ve never strayed from our go-to brand of silicone lube in all these years… until now. I was given the opportunity to try Spunk Lube Pure Silicone so, dizzyguy and I took it for a test drive.

When I poured some in my hands and rubbed them together it felt thicker than our go-to brand. It didn’t tend to drip as much, which is a good thing for a silicone based lube because they can stain some fabrics. I lubed up dizzyguy’s penis and we got down to business. He initially entered quite easily and I could tell the difference right away. It felt slippery but not quite as slippery as the lube we have always used. It created a slightly different sensation as he thrust. There was more friction and I felt more heat. More friction might sound like a bad thing but it wasn’t. It was actually enjoyable. As we continued, it felt like the lube was becoming a bit less slippery as time went on but it did last as long as we did.

The thing I really loved about the Spunk Lube Pure Silicone was that it is much easier to clean up than our go-to lube. After I applied it to dizzyguy’s penis, I wiped my hands on a towel and my hands felt completely clean. With the other lube, I’d still have it on my hands even after wiping on a towel until we were finished and I washed my hands with soap. And even then, using soap and water, it would be difficult to get all the residue off. To my delight the Spunk Lube didn’t leave me feeling greasy and I felt sufficiently clean using baby wipes.

Spunk Lube Pure Silicone has no scent that I could detect and it’s not supposed to have a taste but I admit, I didn’t try it. I’m not a big fan of silicone lube in my mouth. Spunk Lube also claims that the Pure Silicone lube is safe for silicone toys. I haven’t tested this out yet and my advice is that if you do, spot test a small area of your toy to make sure it’s compatible. I’ve successfully used silicone lube on silicone toys with no problem so I know this is possible. But it’s also possible to damage some silicone toys with some silicone lubes so, keep that in mind if you decide to experiment.  And as with all silicone based lube, Spunk Lube Pure Silicone is safe for use with condoms.

Overall, I think Spunk Lube Pure Silicone is a good silicone based lube, especially for those who don’t like how messy some silicone lubes can be. It’s thick enough that it doesn’t drip everywhere. It has decent staying power and it is exceptionally easy to clean off of the skin. For us, it’s not going to replace our favorite silicone lube but I also have no reservations recommending it.

Spunk Lube sent me a bottle of Pure Silicone lubricant in exchange for my honest opinion.
