Sliquid Organics Natural Gel

I love this lube! Like seriously, it’s perfect. There’s not one thing about it I don’t like. It’s great to use with my sex toys. And since it’s from Sliquid, you know it’s not going to poison your vag.

I feel pretty confident recommending Sliquid’s lubes to people because I know that, for the most part, they aren’t going to have a bad reaction to them. These are formulas you can trust and while there is the rare reaction to aloe or citric acid (which are both in this lube), I think theirs are some of the most vagina-friendly lubes on the market.

After learning about lube in the workshop I attended at Woodhull’s SFS15, there are far fewer water-based lubes that I can recommend. I personally want to avoid ingredients like glycerin, parabens and propylene glycol so, I really wouldn’t feel right telling other people to use lube with those ingredients. That takes many water-based lubes off the table. But I know that Sliquid lubes are never going to have that crap. Sliquid Organics Natural Gel has an osmolality and pH that are conducive to having a healthy, happy vag. For more on what that means, read this.

Sliquid Organics Natural Gel Lube

So, beside the fact that it has a formula I am happy with, it’s just great lube. I love the consistency. I used to think that I didn’t like thicker lubes because I thought that they were all sticky and gooey. That is absolutely not the case with this lube. It’s nice and thick so, when I apply it to my sex toys, it doesn’t drip all over the place before I even have a chance to get ’em near my vag. But it doesn’t leave me feeling disgusting and sticky. It even passed the no shower test, in which I simply wipe off the lube with a washcloth and go about my business. I’ve tried other lubes that I couldn’t wait to wash off in the shower with soap but this lube left my vulva/vag feeling fine. No stickiness, itching, burning… nothing.

I don’t use water-based lube for sex with dizzyguy because it generally doesn’t last long enough. But if you do like using it for sex then I think this one should work out great for you. Thicker gel lubes like this one are a great choice for anal play because they have more cushioning to protect delicate tissues. Personally, I would opt for a silicone-based lube for anal sex simply because they last longer and feel slicker to me. But if you’re using a silicone sex toy then water-based lube is the safest choice1.

I’d like to do a side-by-side comparison of the Organics Natural Gel and Sliquid’s other gel lube, Sassy. As far as I can tell, the only difference are the botanical extracts in the Organics Natural Gel. If you’re sensitive to aloe and you want a gel lube, you might give the Sassy a try.

I have absolutely nothing to complain about with the Sliquid Organics Natural Gel, except that I’d like a larger bottle with a pump. It performs well, feels great and it’s not a toxic soup of chemicals like so many other water-based lubes. So yes, get this lube if you want a happy vag and a happy butt! Believe me, when they’re happy, you’re happy.

Good Clean Love Almost Naked

Good Clean Love’s Almost Naked lube made a great first impression on me and it only got better from there. This is a lube I can feel good about recommending because not only does it perform really well but it’s made from gentle, natural ingredients. There are no petrochemicals, parabens or glycerin in Almost Naked lube. It’s certified organic, cruelty free and vegan friendly.

As if all that wasn’t enough to make it an awesome lube, it actually works brilliantly with my sex toys. I absolutely love the consistency of this stuff. It’s thicker, almost like a gel and stays where you put it. I can coat my vibe or dildo with it and it doesn’t drip all over the place. The consistency also gives it more staying power than a thin, watery lube.

The first time I tried it with a clit vibe and I knew it was gonna be a great lube but I didn’t test it for insertable toys until a bit later. Then I discovered that it works just as well for lubing up my dildos and thrusting with them. I wholeheartedly recommend this lube. Like seriously, get some! It’s become my new favorite water-based lube. It has such a nice, almost creamy texture. It just feels wonderful on the skin.

Clean-up is incredibly easy. It’s one of the few lubes that I can just wipe off and not feel like I immediately have to jump in the shower to wash it off. It cleans off of the sex toys just as easily. I can’t say enough good things about Almost Naked lube. It’s everything a lube should be.

But… I really wish I could get it in bigger bottles with a pump but that’s a complaint that I have with most lubes that I like. Seriously, give me a vat of this stuff so I never run out!

I don’t detect much of any kind of taste with this lube. So, it’s just sort of neutral in terms of flavor. Though they do have a flavored lube that many seem to like.

I don’t expect many people to have any kind of adverse reaction to Almost Naked, though it does have aloe in it and I’ve heard that aloe can be irritating to some people. So, if you know aloe is bad for you then obviously, you might not want to try this lube.

Good Clean Love Almost Naked

Good Clean Love Almost Naked lube is everything I could wish for in a water-based lube. It’s just perfect, really. I wouldn’t want them to change a thing. Ya know, besides selling it in bigger bottles. It is THE ideal lube to use with your toys. I don’t use water-based lube for intercourse1 but if you do, I’d venture to guess that it would work great for that too.

Should you try some of this lube? Hell, yes. Don’t wait, get it now. It is priced a bit higher than the comparable Sliquid H2O but I think it’s worth it. I like Almost Naked’s consistency much better. It’s a lube that’s kind to your body, the environment, and animals – and it actually works so much better than some of those other lubes that are full of harsh chemicals. Really though, how could I not love this lube, it has one of my favorite critters right on the tube.

Pjur Woman Nude lube has been serving my masturbatory needs ever since I received it. It’s water-based and works well with my toys. And of course, it has to be glycerin and paraben free or I wouldn’t even review it.

It has a nice consistency. Not too runny but not too thick either. It clings to my toys fairly well and doesn’t drip everywhere. It doesn’t leave me sticky and I don’t have that feeling that I need to run to the shower immediately after I’m done playing with my toys. As most water-based lubes are, Pjur Woman Nude is easy to clean up and doesn’t leave any discernible residue behind. I really don’t have anything to complain about, based on its performance. It’s perfect for my needs.

That said, I don’t use water-based lube for sex with dizzyguy. They never seem to last long enough so we exclusively use silicone-based lube. So, I can’t evaluate the Pjur Woman Nude from that standpoint but if you’re generally happy using water-based lube for sex, I think this lube will work well for you.

I like the squeeze bottle design. I can leave it lying on my sex blanket with the cap off and nothing leaks out. The squeeze bottle also makes it easy for me to squirt some on my clit, as needed.

I do think they’re off base with their pricing. A 3.4oz bottle costs around $19 while you can get an 8.5oz bottle of Sliquid H2O for about the same price (or less, depending on where you shop) and Sliquid makes excellent lube. So based on price, I’m not sure I can recommend it but based on performance, I would.

I know some people might be put off by the gendering of this product. Why does it have to be “for women”? Why can’t it just be a glycerin and paraben free water-based lube that’s good for anyone with sensitive skin?

Edited:

Almost forgot to touch on this.  I think for inserting butt plugs and some light anal play, this lube is fine.  But for vigorous anal sex I think you’d want to choose something that has a thicker consistency.

Update: Since I reviewed this lube, I’ve had the opportunity to learn a lot more about water-based lubes and which ones are most compatible with the body.  I don’t think I can recommend this lube because it contains propylene glycol which is a chemical that is best avoided and which also may make this lube hyper-osmotic.  For more on what this means, read this post.

astroglide sensitive skin gel

The first time I tried Astroglide Sensitive Skin Gel, it was included in a goodie box from Tantus. Also, in the box was Tantus’ new Perfect Plug. I was so excited to get it in my ass and I decided to use the Astroglide to insert it. Of course, I had to run to Twitter to tell the world that I had the Perfect Plug in my ass and I also proclaimed that I really liked Astroglide’s new Sensitive Skin Gel. I loved the consistency of it because it sticks to sex toys really well.

That day I wore the plug coated in the lube for maybe an hour or so and I noticed nothing amiss. A few days later I decided to use the lube with my Eroscillator. Pretty quickly after applying it to my vulva, I began to feel a slight burning sensation. I hurried to get my orgasm over with (don’t you just love it when you have to do that) and got in the shower to wash it off. Once I was all cleaned up the burning subsided. I thought it was really odd that a lube formulated for sensitive skin would cause this reaction when no other water-based, glycerin and paraben free lube I’ve tried has done so.

I started looking at the ingredient list and Googled around a bit and they all seemed pretty harmless… until I got to the last ingredient – phenoxyethanol. My Googling had turned up some information1 that led me to believe that this ingredient might be the one I was sensitive to. Turns out, phenoxyethanol is an anitbacterial agent that is often used as an alternative when a company wants to tout that their product is paraben free. But I’m not so sure that it’s the best ingredient to use in a personal lubricant formulated for sensitive skin and I’m not entirely sure if it’s really all that safe to be used in any personal care product.

Apparently, studies have shown that it can be an irritant to the eyes and skin, which is ironic since it’s used in so many skin care products. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. There was a nipple cream for nursing mothers (called Mommy’s Bliss) that contained phenoxyethanol and the FDA issued a warning against it because they found that phenoxyethanol can depress the central nervous system and may cause vomiting and diarrhea. That sounds just a little bit scary.

And since we know that the tissues of the vulva, vagina and ass absorb chemicals more readily than skin elsewhere on the body, we want to be particularly careful about the ingredients in our personal lubricants. Is it the phenoxyethanol in the Astroglide Sensitive Skin Gel that caused the burning sensation on my vulva? I can’t say with 100% certainty but I do know that I will avoid lubricants with this chemical in the future. And just so you know, phenoxyethanol is a glycol ether. Glycols are chemicals that are found in all sorts of stuff like paint, lacquer and jet fuel.

It is rather ironic that I’m going to have to recommend that those with sensitive skin stay away from the Astroglide Sensitive Skin Gel. It’s a shame really because, other than the burning genitals, I really did like this lube.

I have contacted Astroglide and I am currently awaiting their response. If I learn anything useful then I’ll update this post.

Pink and Gun Oil lube

Before I started reviewing, we were pretty well hooked on one brand of silicone-based lube. We never felt the need to explore other options because we were totally satisfied with our favorite. But with silicone sex toys, came the need for water-based lube and with reviewing came opportunities to try new brands of all kinds of lube. So far, I’ve tried some pretty good ones but none have replaced our go-to silicone-based lube. I was contacted by Empowered Products, the manufacturer of Pink and Gun Oil, and they offered to let me try their water-based and silicone-based varieties of both brands. Would any of them be good enough to make us switch?

When it comes to lube, I’m kind of picky. I won’t use anything that contains glycerin or parabens. Luckily, Pink Water, Gun Oil H2O, Pink Silicone and Gun Oil Silicone lubes contain neither. There are products under each brand that do contain parabens and I was unwilling to review those. For more information on why you might want to avoid these ingredients, see this page.

First of all, I feel that I need to point out that the formulation of Pink Water and Gun Oil H2O lubes appears to be the same, according to the listed ingredients. The same is true for the silicone-based variety of both brands. So, which to choose may simply come down to packaging and price – and as you’ll see, it does.

Ingredients1

Pink Water Gun Oil H2O
Purified Water, Propleyne Glycol (Humectant/Moisture), Hydroxyethlcellulose (Emulsifier/Enhance Moisture), Aloe Barbadensis Leaf (Aloe Vera), Potassium Sorbate (Anti-Microbial), Tetrasodium EDTA (Stabilizer), Panax Ginseng Root (Ginseng- Heighten Sensation), Paulina Cupana (Guarana – Increase Blood Flow), Avena Sativa (Oat Extract- Antioxidant)*, Polysorbate 20 (Emulsifier), PEG-45 (Humectant/Moisture), Polyquarternium-5 (Emulsifier), Citric Acid (Antioxidant/Sweetner) Purified Water, Propleyne Glycol (Humectant/Moisture), Hydroxyethlcellulose (Emulsifier/Enhance Moisture), Aloe Barbadensis Leaf (Aloe Vera), Potassium Sorbate (Anti-Microbial), Tetrasodium EDTA (Stabilizer), Panax Ginseng Root (Ginseng- Heighten Sensation), Paulina Cupana (Guarana – Increase Blood Flow), Avena Sativa (Oat Extract- Antioxidant)*, Polysorbate 20 (Emulsifier), PEG-45 (Humectant/Moisture), Polyquarternium-5 (Emulsifier), Citric Acid (Antioxidant/Sweetener)

*Those with Celiac disease or oat allergies may want to avoid Pink Water and Gun Oil H2O.

Pink Silicone Gun Oil Silicone
Cyclopentasiloxane (Silicone/Lubrication), Dimenthicone (Silicone/Lubrication), Dimethiconol (Silicone/Lubrication), Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E/Healing), Aloe Barbadensis Leaf (Aloe Vera//Reduce Irritation/Healing) Cyclopentasiloxane (Silicone/Lubrication), Dimenthicone (Silicone/Lubrication), Dimethiconol (Silicone/Lubrication), Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E/Healing), Aloe Barbadensis Leaf (Aloe Vera//Reduce Irritation/Healing)

I really like the water-based and silicone-based formulas of both brands. We tend to use silicone-based lube for vaginal intercourse and I usually save the water-based lube for my sex toys. Dizzyguy even commented on how nice the Pink Silicone/Gun Oil Silicone lube felt and he’s a die hard fan of our go-to silicone-based lube. He said that he would consider using them again and it’s not easy to get him to switch to anything new once he’s found something he likes. I haven’t tried another silicone-based lube yet that I would substitute for my favorite but I think Pink Silicone and Gun Oil Silicone come close.

I am also equally pleased with the Pink Water and Gun Oil H2O lubes. And why not? It is the same lube in different bottles. It works really well with my toys. It doesn’t get sticky and it lasts about as long as you can expect water-based lube to last. Like most water-based lube it doesn’t stain fabrics and it’s easy to clean up.

I was given the 3.3oz bottles of the Pink lube and 2oz bottles of the Gun Oil lube for this review and the pump is annoying on all of them. The tiniest bit of lube comes out with each squirt and we don’t skimp on the lube.  I do know that the 8oz bottle of Gun Oil H2O dispenses better but it’s not a pump.  I’d like to see it sold in industrial sized bottles with serious pumps on them, like the ginormous bottles of our go-to lube that we buy.  The smallest bottles do have their place though since they are TSA compliant.  I’d probably buy the Gun Oil brand lubricants instead of the Pink brand because they come in much larger sizes but there’s another reason I’d choose the Gun Oil brand, which I’ll explain.

Cost comparison2

Pink Silicone lubeGun Oil Silicone lube

Again, Gun Oil Silicone has more size choices and appears to have better prices. Also, the 4oz Pink Silicone is so much more expensive because of the glass bottle. That’s just silly. I’d never spend that much just to get the glass bottle.

Despite the fact that I really like these lubricants, there is one thing I do take issue with. I don’t understand why you don’t get the larger bottles with the Pink brand and the prices are higher overall for the exact same formulations of lube; unless they can give me some explanation as to how the Pink lube is somehow different despite the listed ingredients.  So in other words, lube in masculine bottles costs less than the same lube in feminine bottles.

I do genuinely like their lubricants but I have a hard time recommending them because of the pricing discrepancy. So, my advice… don’t get duped by the marketing. Buy the lube in the manly bottles, it’s a better bargain. But beyond that, why even have a “male” and “female” brand of the same lube? Isn’t it enough that they’re producing a quality product?

I’m sure this marketing strategy works on some level or they wouldn’t be doing it but really, why can’t this lube be sold under one gender neutral brand with the same quantity and price for everyone?  OK… I get it, maybe some men feel more comfortable buying lube in masculine bottles and some women might prefer feminine bottles but can’t they at least be made in the same sizes for the same prices?

Update: Since I reviewed these lubes, I’ve had the opportunity to learn a lot more about water-based lube and which ones are most compatible with the body.  I can’t recommend the Gun Oil H2O because it has been found to be hyper-osmotic.  The Pink Water is likely hyper-osmotic as well since it appears to have the same formulation as the Gun Oil H2O.  The ingredient, propylene glycol is best avoided.  Form more on what this means, read this post.

“You put what, where?” That’s what some of you will be thinking when I say that I’ve used an oil-based lube in my vagina. You might have heard that oil-based lube should never be used vaginally and for the most part, that’s very good advice. A lot of oil-based lube can lead to infections when used vaginally but I’ve found one that claims to be different.

Yes is a company that makes both water-based and oil-based lube and they say that their oil-based formula is safe for the vagina because they use only all natural, organic ingredients. I was somewhat skeptical of this but after reading some things on their site and getting an explanation from the company, I decided that it was probably safe to give it a try. I mean, what’s the worst thing that could happen? Besides, I do have pretty good health insurance should anything go wrong.

Yes told me that it’s true that most oil-based lubricants are not recommended for vaginal use because they often contain mineral oil, which is a byproduct of petrochemicals. They went on to explain that it’s thought that because mineral oil does not get absorbed into the tissue, the oil smothers it and traps the bacteria underneath, which is what can lead to infection. Yes oil-based lube is made with organic vegetable oils (like Sweet Almond and Sunflower oils) which absorb into the vaginal and vulvar tissue.

When I contacted them I was mostly interested in the oil-based formula but they suggested that I try their water-based lube as well. They said that combining the two products together results in the longest lasting lubrication. Apparently, laying down a layer of the oil-based lube along with an application of the water-based, prevents it from absorbing into the tissue too quickly so, it stays slicker longer. Since they’re so committed to using only safe ingredients in their oil-based formula, it’s only fitting that glycerin and parabens are absent from the water-based lube. It’s also pH balanced which can help prevent infections and irritation. Armed with this information, I felt pretty confident in giving bIMG_1791oth of their products a try.

Yes sent me the Selection pack that has both formulas packaged several ways and it’s a nice amount of product to let you try it out and see how you like it without spending a lot. With the Selection pack you get one 25ml bottle of each lube, two applicators prefilled with the water-based lube and one sachet of each. Inside the box there was a pretty little pouch that had the bottles, applicators and sachets inside.

I decided that the first test would be with dizzyguy. Using one of the applicators I applied the water-based lube internally and then I lubricated dizzyguy’s penis with a generous amount of the oil-based. It comes out really thick but melts as soon as you rub it between your hands. It also has a faint scent of cocoa butter. We had sex in our usual manner but it felt quite a bit different than when we use our go-to silicone-based lube. I hesitate to say it felt more natural but that’s the best way I can describe it.

IMG_1826

Consistency of the oil-based lube.

It’s like I felt the lube less and him more but there wasn’t an uncomfortable amount of friction. He still glided in and out of me with ease but I didn’t notice the feeling of the lube as much as I do with the silicone-based that we normally use. This had me concerned that things wouldn’t stay slippery for the duration but it did last long enough without having to reapply. Dizzyguy had no complaints and I was fairly impressed with the performance of the dual product application and it seemed to clean up easier than our usual silicone-based lube.

Always one to thoroughly test a product, we tried the Yes lubricants again but things didn’t go as well as the first time. This time, the lube dried up way too fast and we had to stop and apply our usual silicone-based lube to keep going. I would have tried reapplying the Yes lube but our silicone-based lube was closer. I wondered why we had such a different experience than the first time and it occurred to me… we didn’t apply the products the same way as before. This time, I didn’t use the applicator to insert the water-based lube internally. I applied a generous amount of the oil-based formula to dizzyguy’s penis and then over that added some of the water-based. I wondered if that had anything to do with the differing outcomes in performance. So, since I had one more applicator of the water-based lube left, we gave it another try.

We did everything the same way as our first trial of the product and it all went very well. The lube stayed slippery enough all the way through until we were finished. So, for us the best way to apply the lubricants is to use an applicator to insert the water-based lube into the vagina and then apply the oil-based lube to the penis. The same method could probably work with sex toys too.

Speaking of toys, I did experiment with the products using my sex toys. First I tried using just the oil-based lube on two of my favorite sex toys, the njoy Pure Wand and the We-Vibe Salsa. That didn’t work very well for me. It just wasn’t slippery enough for either toy to glide as much as I like. This will be an individual thing, depending on how much friction you like to feel when using toys internally and externally. So, I added a layer of the water-based over the oil-based on both toys and it helped a lot but the slickness didn’t last long enough and eventually I switched over to my silicone-based lube to finish.

So, I’ve had some mixed results with the Yes oil-based and water-based lubricants. Using the applicators for the water-based resulted in the best performance for us. I really enjoyed the more natural sensation when we used the dual application for intercourse but honestly, I just don’t see these products replacing our favorite silicone-based lube but we are pretty hooked on that stuff. However, the oil-based lube could come in handy when wearing butt plugs for longer periods of time; something I still plan to try.

The Yes water-based lube is safe for all applications but I must stress that the oil-based lube SHOULD NOT be used with latex condoms, dental dams or sex toys containing latex. The oil-based lube is safe for use with sex toys made of silicone, glass, steel, ceramic, aluminum and hard plastic. The Yes website is jam packed with a lot of great information about their products and rather than reiterate all of it here, I encourage you to check it out.

From the Yes website:

Yes® Oil based lubricant contains two rich organic butters – cocoa butter and shea butter, which impart smoothness and body; two fine emollient oils – sweet almond oil and sunflower oil, both organic, which confer a silky texture and skin moisturising benefits; and lastly a little white organic bees wax, and some Vitamin E which as well as benefiting the skin, acts as a preservative.

Yes® water based lubricant is made from organic Aloe Vera, a renowned skin food; from organic Flax extract which is particularly beneficial for the mucous membranes and from three synergistic plant based gums – guar, locust bean and xanthan, all of which contribute to the deep velvety texture. Food grade preservatives are included, and citric acid to buffer the pH.

Full lists of ingredients can be found here.

I definitely think the Yes lubricants are worth trying. I had varying results depending on the application methods used. It’s a very subjective thing and it really comes down to how you like your lube to feel. My experience is that it’s not as slippery or long lasting as our go-to silicone-based lube but if I was for some reason opposed to using silicone-based lube or when I’m using silicone sex toys, it’s a viable alternative.

So, you think you’d like to give it a try? Well, it can be hard to find here in the US but you can order directly from Yes through their website. If you spend over $50, your order ships free.

You may think lube is lube and whatever you grab off the shelf at the drugstore is fine. It’s all the same, right? Well, not really. I haven’t purchased intimate lubricant from a drugstore in over 10 years so, I don’t know what the selection is like but you’ll always find the best premium lubes in sex shops. The first thing you need to think about is your intended purpose.

Water based lube is fine for any situation whether it be, vaginal intercourse, using sex toys or anal sex.  If you want something that lasts longer than water-based and doesn’t get sticky you could try a silicone-based lube but it’s not a great idea to use silicone-based lube with silicone sex toys because some silicone-based lubes can damage some silicone toys. But it’s perfect for vaginal intercourse, sex toys made out of other materials (steel, glass, plastic, etc) and anal sex.

Another option you might find in a sex shop is hybrid lube. This is a mix of silicone-based and water-based lube. Hybrid lubes try to give you the best of both worlds, the easy clean-up of water-based plus the staying power of silicone-based. I have successfully used hybrid lubes on silicone sex toys but it always requires a spot test to make sure they are compatible. Hybrid lube is suitable for both vaginal intercourse and anal sex.

Lastly, you might find some oil-based lubes. These generally have the best staying power of any lube. They are good for use with sex toys (made of premium body safe materials), anal sex and male masturbation but oil-based lube shouldn’t be used in the vagina because it could lead to infections.  Oil-based lubes should not be used with latex condoms.

So you see, the lube you choose does matter. Now for me, I prefer silicone-based lube for vaginal sex because I really don’t produce enough natural lubrication and I need the staying power. I tend to find that water-based lubes dry up and don’t last long enough or they get sticky. But water-based is the most general purpose, easily cleaned up lube there is and you might need to find a good one to use with your silicone sex toys.

When you’re trying to find a good water-based lube there are a couple of things you need to look out for. You really want to make sure that it doesn’t contain glycerin or parabens. Glycerin can lead to yeast infections in some women who are prone to them. Parabens are a nasty class of chemicals that are found in all sorts of personal care products. Some people are allergic to parabens and can have skin reactions. Also, parabens are being found in breast tumors. Some parabens have a demonstrated ability to mimic estrogen. Methylparaben applied to the skin, may react with UVB leading to increased skin aging and DNA damage. These are very common ingredients in many brands of water-based lube but there are a few really good brands out there that don’t use them.

One of those brands is Blossom Organics. All of their products are made to be gentle and to work with a woman’s natural chemistry. From the Blossom Organics website:

Our all-natural intimate care products are made without harsh, controversial ingredients like parabens, petrochemicals, silicones, hormones or pesticides. We also stay away from drying alcohols and potentially harmful additives such as artificial fragrances, dyes and flavorings. And, of course, we do not use glycerin in our personal lubricants.

Natural Moisturizing Lubricant ingredients:
Organic aloe barbadensis leaf extract, sorbitol, hydroxyethylcellulose, allantoin, lactic acid, tocopherol (vitamin E), potassium sorbate, organic stevia rebaudiana extract, hyaluronic acid, organic paeonia albiflora (peony) root extract, organic passiflora incarnate flower extract.natmoistlube1

Those are the characteristics I look for in a good water-based lube so when Blossom Organics offered me the chance to try their Natural Moisturizing Lubricant in exchange for an honest review, I was happy to do so. As I mentioned, I almost always use silicone-based lube for vaginal intercourse but I made an exception so I could evaluate this lubricant.

Performance was good with my sex toys. It didn’t feel sticky, it was a light consistency – not thick and gloppy and it generally lasted as long as I needed it to with my sex toys. Now if I was going for a marathon session, I had to reapply but that’s pretty much to be expected with water-based lube. The thing about water-based lube is that it gets slippery again with water so I’ve heard that some people keep a spray bottle full of water on their night stand just for that purpose.

So, it suited my needs with sex toys but how did perform during intercourse? Very well, actually… surprisingly so. I tend not to expect much from water-based lube when I use it for intercourse. I automatically expect it to get sticky and dry out too soon but the Blossom Organics lube didn’t do that. Even dizzyguy agreed that it worked well. It stayed slippery for the duration though it did feel as though a reapplication would be necessary had we gone much longer but for a water-based lube, I was impressed. It felt light and clean on my skin and not like something I couldn’t wait to wash off. And when it came time to clean up, I simply did so with baby wipes and it felt like no residue was left behind.  About the only reservation I have with this product, and it’s really nothing against the product, is that it might not be best for anal sex.  You could certainly use it but generally for anal, it’s best to have a thicker lube that provides more cushioning to the delicate tissues of the anus.

I probably won’t use it regularly for sex since my personal preference is silicone-based for that but I’ll definitely keep the Blossom Organics Natural Moisturizing Lubricant on hand for use with my silicone sex toys. If you’re trying to find a good water-based lube that performs well and doesn’t have harsh chemicals like parabens or glycerin – that can lead to yeast infections – then I highly recommend the Blossom Organics Natural Moisturizing Lubricant. And guess what, you can even find it in a drugstore. CVS/pharmacy now carries it.

wet naturals strawberry lubeFor me, lube is one of those things where you find one you like and you stick with it. My go to lube for intercourse is Wet Platinum Bodyglide. I always use silicone lube for intercourse but I am often on the lookout for good water based lubes that I can use with my silicone sex toys. So, when I had a chance to try Wet Naturals Sensual Strawberry water-based lube in exchange for my honest opinion, I was happy to it give a try.

When it comes to water-based lubes there are two things I look for. I want them to be free of glycerin and parabens. Wet Naturals Sensual Strawberry contains neither. For reasons why we should avoid lubes that contain these ingredients, see this post. I’m usually not looking for flavored lube but just because it’s flavored doesn’t mean it won’t work well for lubing up my sex toys. Plus there are times when, probably due to medication, my mouth is really dry and I can’t give the wet sloppy blow jobs I’d like to. Flavored lube can come in handy on those occasions.

Wet Naturals Sensual Strawberry has more of a scent than a taste and it does smell quite nice. I actually, don’t mind that it doesn’t have a strong flavor. It tastes very slightly of strawberry with a light sweetness. It is a somewhat thinner lube, meaning that it’s kind of runny and watery, which can be a good thing depending on what you’re looking for. If you don’t like the feeling of a thick gloppy lube (most of the time, I don’t) then the consistency of this lube should work well for you.

However, if you’re looking for a water-based lube to use for anal play then this probably wouldn’t be the best choice. Generally, when it comes to anal play, you want a lube that has more substance and staying power; something that will provide more cushioning for the delicate tissues. That said, for lubing up dildos for vaginal insertion or for my clit vibes, it works just fine. It doesn’t get sticky or dry up too soon and since it’s water based, cleanup is very easy. Its flavoring is subtle and the fragrance is nice. If you’re looking for a flavored lube or just want something water based for your toys then I don’t think you can go wrong with this.

Update: Since I reviewed this lube, I’ve had the opportunity to learn a lot more about lube and which ingredients/brands are compatible with the body.  I’m not sure if I’d still recommend this lube.  Wet lubricants are generally hyper-osmotic but this is from their “Naturals” line and I don’t see the ingredients that would make this particular lube hyper-osmotic.  That doesn’t mean it isn’t though. To learn what this means, read this post.
