Since recently discovering that I liked getting spanked with a silicone paddle and that dizzyguy liked delivering the spanking, I got brave and more curious about impact play. I guess you could say that I’m pushing my boundaries a bit and broadening my sexual horizons. I initially affiliated with Sex and Metal because I thought that resources for BDSM gear were sorely lacking on my blog. Just because I wasn’t into it didn’t mean that my readers wouldn’t be interested in it.

So, I put some banners on my site and left it at that. I didn’t think I would be doing any reviews for them because, at the time, I couldn’t see myself enjoying any of their products. That was before I tried my first impact toy. I’ve learned that it doesn’t have to be a scary and painful thing. Of course, it can be if you want it to but if you have a partner you can trust and open communication sprinkled with a dash of common sense, it is possible to enjoy impact play even when you never thought you would.

I was looking around Sex and Metal’s site and the silicone floggers intrigued me. I like the fact that they have alternatives to leather floggers. I asked them if they’d be interested in having me review the Spiked Serpent Silicone Flogger and the rest, as they say… is history. When the box arrived the first thing I noticed was the weight. That spiked handle is one solid piece of heavy steel. It has sort of a medieval look to it with its Italian forged spear at the end. I admit, upon opening the box and seeing it for the first time, I wondered what I had gotten myself into but I couldn’t back out of it now. I promised a review and I was going to make good on it.

Dizzyguy gave me such a wary look when he first saw it. I guess it appeared a bit intimidating to him too. I told him that we were going to try it through my pants first. So, I bent over and prepared to receive my punishment, albeit with a layer of protection between my delicate skin and those fierce looking silicone strands. The first couple of strikes were a little awkward and failed to produce much sensation at all. If you’ve never done anything like this before, it takes a minute to find your technique with it. But once he figured out how to swing it just so… all 20 silicone strands snapped across my backside and guess what, it wasn’t bad at all. With my new found confidence, I took off my pants.

I got on the bed, got down on all fours, stuck my ass in the air and told dizzyguy to have at it. He struck me with the Spiked Serpent and even with a bare ass, it wasn’t bad at all. We couldn’t stop giggling and every time the flogger connected, I would let out a squeal. He gradually increased the force that he swung it with and it finally did reach a point where I didn’t want him to hit me any harder. But as long as he stayed consistent with his swing, I really enjoyed it. Every now and then the strands didn’t land square on my backside and connected with my vulva a little and I kind of liked that too. Nothing about it was scary or incredibly painful. Like I said, we were laughing the whole time and it was more of a playful thing than punishment. Don’t get me wrong, if that’s what you’re into, you could certainly punish someone with this flogger but you can also keep it light and pleasurable.

When we decided that I’d been flogged enough, I picked up the Spiked Serpent and asked dizzyguy if he wanted to try it. Without hesitation, he assumed the position. I was actually kind of surprised by his willingness. Just as he had to find his technique with swinging it so did I and at first, I was pretty clumsy. But I quickly got the hang of it and started to deliver my own “punishment”. I started out really light and gradually applied a little more force. I was worried about hitting his testicles and if that would really hurt him but at no point did he express that kind of discomfort. Playing with the Spiked Serpent was a lot of fun, for both of us and by no means do you have to be in a D/s relationship to enjoy this kind of stimulation. It can be just a lighthearted playful thing, if you want it to be.

The first thing I noticed while getting flogged was of course, the sensation but then I also noticed the sound this flogger makes when those strands snap together. It adds another layer of stimulation to hear this while also feeling the impact. I was totally expecting this flogger to create a stinging sensation, even more so than the silicone paddle we had tried before. Surprisingly, it doesn’t sting all that much.  It produces more of a blunt thuddy feeling. So that works out great because now we have two tools to deliver different sensations.

Since the Spiked Serpent is made of silicone and steel, it’s pretty easy to take care of. I wouldn’t feel the need to wash it after every use but you could easily wash the strands with antibacterial soap and water. As with many other silicone products, the Spiked Serpent’s strands do collect quite a bit of lint but to me, it’s really not a big deal.handles

The Spiked Serpent is 26 1/2 inches from the tip of the handle to the ends of the strands. The strands measure 19 1/2 inches long and a 1/2  inch wide. The handle is weighty but not so much that it’s a hindrance. You have a choice between the natural finish or candy apple red. The silicone strands only come in black.

So, consider my boundaries pushed and my horizons broadened.  I’m now the proud owner of a really bad ass silicone flogger and I like both the giving and receiving. I don’t see any reason why the Spiked Serpent Silicone Flogger wouldn’t be equally appropriate for the very experienced or complete and total beginners. It’s really all in how you use it. Just make sure you trust your partner, have good communication and use some common sense and you might actually be surprised by how much you like it.

Sex and Metal provided the Spiked Serpent Silicone Flogger in exchange for my unbiased review.

  1. Dizzyguy’s right to look wary! It’s called the Spiked Serpent and the handle looks like a sexy murder weapon *laughs* I love that this is silicone and easy to clean <3 Your experiences with it sound sweet.
Btw, I really appreciate your opinion on the paddle and now this flogger since it's so new to me. It's really comforting to have another beginner say, "This was okay, I had fun." 🙂

  2. I’m a total noob in this kind of play, and I’m still a bit scared. Even though I’ve tried the Plunge Paddle and still sort of enjoyed it, I can’t really imagine how it’ll be to explore more in this field. You make it very tempting though… The best part was: “stuck my ass in the air and told dizzyguy to have at it” That was so adorable lol.

    • Aww, well I hope he enjoyed your booty up in the air, and it takes time getting used too hun. Either you like it or you don’t and even still you can go at your pace and just see how it turns out.

  3. Yay, I am glad you decided to review for them, they are awesome and have some awesome stuff on their site. I am glad you are enjoying a little bit of spanking play and this is a awesome flogger.

  4. I love that you’re trying new things, and I resolved to do the same in 2014. I have only one (cheap) cat-o’-nine-tails that came as a free gift when I bought my fiance his Fleshlight. We’ve never used it. It sits in a drawer in my dresser with several other toys we’ve never tried.

But I do enjoy being spanked with his open palm. We’ve never tried spanking in any serious way. He’ll swat me on the ass, and I’ll squeal, but it never lasts as long as I’d like it to, and I wouldn’t say that my fiance has a technique as he’s never really practiced.

This year, I’d love to explore spanking more deeply. I have my eye on a pair of spanking and soothing creams and would love to try them with a spanking-only session that doesn’t necessarily lead to sex. I’m also very curious about riding crops and have my eye on one that has a glass handle in particular.

Your exploration of spanking toys is an inspiration.
